The HSB DIGI-FS 9 is a real all-rounder: DIGI-Finisher, folder-stitcher and conventional saddle stitcher in one, making it a truly revolutionary product for postpress finishing. Depending on your requirements, it can be ultra-compact or expanded into a large system and offers typical Hohner user-friendliness and maximum flexibility.

This hybrid system is the result of merging the previous separate processes of folding, collating and stitching in conventional or DIGI-finisher operation with the greatest possible flexibility. It features the new technical option of folding raw sheets directly from the press or sheets cut by the print roller in the subsequent folding process to form a complete booklet (consisting of content including an envelope of the same grammage). This results in extreme simplification for further processing; the folded booklet that has already been collated is only stitched in the high-precision wire-stitching unit and from there forwarded to the trimmer and delivery device. This results in complete elimination of single sheet, folded sheet and envelope feeder systems as well as problematic interfaces to the collating machine, for example.
In this way, the folding machine can also be used to fold and feed and, in parallel operation, the saddle stitcher can also be used to independently produce a booklet at the same time. These two processes were previously only possible independently of each other.
Alternatively, the operation can also originate from a print-roll (rotary printing), generating the additional need of a slitter.
In the alternative converting mode from a print-roll (rotary printing) a slitter cuts the material intosheets and hands them over to the folding unit by a delivery table.
The key focus of user friendliness has also been achieved on the orientation table, which offers greater accessibility. Moreover, all settings regarding formats are fully automated and linked to the central control panel. The result is an accurate sheet orientation, even for landscape format, at the highest machine speeds. The ART fulfills the task of optimal preparation for sheet handling in the folding unit.
The FoldNet folding unit includes four fold plates as standard and provides an simple folding process, by intelligent machine control via touchscreen, which allows the operator access to all necessary settings. The consistent automation of the feeders, fold plates, deflectors, alignment rails, fold rollers and deliveries guarantees complete control with maximum precision regarding tolerance of settings. Another prove of user friendliness consists in the possibility of adjusting settings for fold rollers and fold plates in case of necessary corrections during production. As an example, folding length can be automatically adjusted on the fly. (Optional fold plates can be added to a maximum of 6.)
The delivery unit, due to exact and precise guidance of the sheets, grants a very consistent process quality in both scoring and delivery to the plow fold unit. Depending on customer needs, Hohner can offer two alternative solutions, proving the promise of modular flexibility. For a DIGI-Finisher operation the jogger collating unit, called the DIGI-Unit, is required. For strictly use as Fold Stitcher (FS function), you would need the FS 9 interface with the plow folder.
Our cover feeder further demonstrates the modular nature of the HSB 9.000. This ergonomically designed cover feeder works, for the most part, vertically. It can be loaded with more sheets than horizontal cover feeders; ideal surface protection is guaranteed and feeding runs very smoothly to the inner or outer creasing station for an accurate folding of the cover. Stripes and marks are no longer an issue. The cover folder is leader in its class with a maximum format of 640 x 360 mm (unfolded x spine length). Two pairs of grippers at the feeder drum reduce feeder speed and protect the machine as well as the sheet; an adjustment and maintenance free signature inspection unit with photocell is also standard. The folding and creasing element of the HSB 9.000 is also equipped with a double sheet control and an electronic on/off switch option for the vacuum. Just as with the vertical feeder the drop time of the sheet to the chain can be individually adjusted. The format setting is also toolless in this case for all detailed adjustments, for example setting format, centralization of the complete stack, fine setting of squareness of the crease, switching from inner to outer crease and vice versa, fine setting of the crease pressure, finally adjustment of fold roller pressure.
It is a proven fact that you buy experience when you choose any of our stitching heads. Once you combine them with the stitching unit of the DIGI-FS 9 there are many advantages for the user. The stitching unit is equipped with 2 Hohner Universal 52/8S narrow stitching heads as standard, this can also be extended to a maximum of 4 of these extremely operator friendly stitching heads. With the Universal 52/8S we have decided on the fast all-rounder from the Hohner-Narrow Stitching Head series. This head can easily handle 9.000 stitches per hour. The precise central adjustment tool of the DIGI-FS 9 grants an efficient adjustment of wire length and stitching thickness at the same time. A new developed control system of the stitching (without any mechnical setting) as well as a caliper control are available for optional integration, allowing by this the maximum quality control without increasing the length of the line. There is a choice of many optional exchange part sets to offer the use of various crown widths, loop diameters, and wire types. The stitching unit itself is a completely new design. The reliable gripper system (transport finger with polyurethane inlets) ensures exact positioning of staples in brochures even at maximum speed.
Again, precision made by Hohner pays off; the in-house developed perfect scoring and folding units allow for a perfect and markfree plow fold, guiding single sheet with the utmost diligence -at even the highest speeds. The feature of minimal sheet distance allows for even higher output rates, granting faultless collating of the single sheets with safe positioning of the sheet pile on the collating chain. As a result for our customers, the DIGI unit means an additional opportunity to increase efficiency in production. Also the DIGI-Unit may be used exclusively or in conjunction with the FS-9 unit, again demonstrating the true nature of the all-in-one concept.
Flexibility, speed and precision – all in your favour.
All relevant settings for a perfect three sided cut are easily adjusted by hand without the need for tools in a matter of minutes. Even two-up production (optional) can be adjusted in only minutes. Innovative gear box technology allows gentle braking of the belts, so that even products travelling at higher speed are slowed down gently as they arrive at the backstops. Quiet running and cutting accuracy characterize this trimmer. The knives are combined in a yoke and are guided by six lineal bearings. This results in a totally accurate guide system which does not allow any movement, ensuring an extremely long life of the blades. For optimum protection of the surface of the product, the transportation belts come to a complete standstill during the cutting process. Quality - a Hohner strength.
The Hohner shingle delivery will automatically batch products on the delivery belt. An optional offset delivery allows more time to bundle, as it alternates batches either side of the delivery belt. This gives you more order and easy recognition during production. Thinking for the customer – another Hohner quality.
